Judge and move
Track the flight and move early enough to avoid a desperate final reach. Keep watching as the ball descends; wind, spin and background can make its path harder to judge.
A high catch requires judgement of the flight, movement into position and communication with nearby fielders. Learning to call and avoid collisions is part of the technique, not an optional extra.

Agree simple calling conventions with your team. Call early and loudly enough to be heard, and respond to another fielder’s call rather than assuming both players can continue towards the same ball.
Settle under a manageable feed and watch the ball into the hands. Review the final steps and balance with your coach before making the feeds higher or introducing running catches.
Make calling and responding part of the drill’s scoring.
Build manageable flight judgement before asking for difficult running catches.
Start with soft-ball feeds in an open area, away from walls, roads and other groups. Agree who takes responsibility before introducing overlapping fielding areas. Record judgement, communication and collection separately. A drop caused by confusion needs a different correction from a late movement.
Two fielders converge on a ball. If the call is unclear, the attempt is not a good training result even when someone catches it. Review responsibility and communication first, then repeat with a safe feed that lets both players practise the agreed response.
Independent practice notes by the DCA website team. Discuss changes to your technique with Coach Ravinder Singh.
