Recording training workload

A workload record brings nets, matches, fitness work and other sport into one view. Its purpose is to help a coach understand what you have done and how you are responding, not to produce a universal safe number.

Use this strength session as an example of activity that belongs in a workload record. The guide below explains what to record, not how much of this workout you should do.

What to watch for

Count the whole week

Include practice and match bowling, fielding, gym activity and other organised sport. Separate sessions that feel similar but place different demands on you, rather than recording every day simply as cricket.

Add how the session felt

Alongside duration or the agreed activity measure, note unusual fatigue or discomfort. Share concerns with the appropriate coach or health professional instead of using a spreadsheet to diagnose yourself.

Review before adding more

Look at the planned week with the person managing your training. Avoid treating an empty day on one team’s calendar as proof that you have no other commitments or recovery needs.

Common mistakes to review

Recording only matches

Include training and other sport in the shared picture.

Using the log as medical clearance

Changes in symptoms or readiness need appropriate professional advice.

How to review it in a session

Use a simple table with date, activity, duration or coach-selected measure, and a short response note. Bring it to the person responsible for your programme. The record supports a conversation; it does not calculate an injury prediction or clear you to train through pain.

A practice example

School practice, academy nets and a weekend match may each look modest in isolation. Put them on one calendar and discuss the combined week. Share the same record with your school and academy coaches so each can see the sessions the other has planned.

Take these questions to the nets.

  • Have I included all teams and other sport?
  • Who sees my complete weekly schedule?
  • What changed in how I felt during or after training?
